What to expect from couple and family counselling.
It is natural to feel a little anxious about discussing your most important relationships with a therapist. At The Good Relationship Practice we understand these worries and we approach our work with the utmost respect and positive regard for our clients. Our therapy is discreet and private, warm and respectful, evidence-based and efficient.
-
You will feel heard.
The Good Relationship Practice offers a comfortable and private environment for you to explore your relationships and get them back on track. We tailor our sessions to meet your specific needs and we involve you in setting therapy goals. Your therapist will gently guide the sessions so that everyone feels heard.
-
Your sessions will be productive.
Clients leave each session with a deeper understanding of relationship dynamics, tools to improve communication and the confidence to move forward. While we can support you to address past hurts and long-standing disagreements, we also encourage you to focus on future goals.
-
What if others don't want to attend.
At the Good Relationship Practice we believe good relationships are key to our overall sense of wellbeing. We find that most people feel the same way and once the therapy process starts we can usually encourage others to attend, even if they are reluctant at first. We offer choice and collaboration at every stage.
-
Privacy and discretion.
The counsellors at The Good Relationship Practice are bound by confidentiality rules and a Code of Ethics set out by the Psychotherapy & Counselling Federation of Australia. Our rooms in McMahons Point offer a discrete entrance and a private waiting area.
-
Appointment setting is easy.
We offer in-person appointments in our McMahons Point rooms on Sydney’s North Shore and/or online sessions via Zoom. Our therapists are available Monday to Saturday (including after-hours) and we do our best to accommodate your busy schedule. Sessions are usually held fortnightly and on a regular basis so that once you have your allocated time-spot it will be held exclusively for you.
-
Outcomes and length of therapy.
There is no set time-frame for the length of couples and family counselling, though progress can be made in only a few sessions. Your therapist will work collaboratively and with a continuous feedback loop to ensure the sessions remain targetted and outcome-focused. You can cease therapy at any time with one session’s notice.
