Cherie Marriott
Couple and Family Therapist
“I enjoy providing clients with a safe and mediated environment to discuss their relationships. You will feel heard and I will support you to build stronger connections”
Specialist training.
Cherie brings a mix of warmth and expert training to help couples and families navigate difficult patches in their relationships. As a Masters-level counsellor and psychotherapist, she specialises in helping clients with communication issues, conflict problems, low intimacy, parenting struggles, childhood anxiety and ADHD, and separation or family blending.
She has a particular interest in working with betrayals and affairs, and with adult families where there are long-standing disagreements and cut-offs. She also has extensive experience in Family Court matters and shared parenting arrangements.
Compassionate approach.
Cherie provides clients with a fair and non-judgemental environment to discuss their relationship issues. In her sessions, everyone has a chance to share their perspective and feel fully heard.
Cherie’s approach is to offer relationship therapy with a coaching edge, meaning she uses her expert assessment of the dynamics between people to gently guide them into adopting better practices. She is confident and collaborative, offering choice at every point and building a strong rapport with her couples and families.
Background in complex trauma.
Cherie has over a decade of clinical experience working with couples and families. She started her counselling practice in the fields of complex trauma and domestic violence, working in the non-government sector offering support to children in out-of-home care and adult survivors of child abuse.
She is an accredited group facilitator for Melbourne University’s Tuning into Teens parenting program, and the Jacaranda Project for adult survivors of sexual abuse. In previous roles, Cherie was a committee member of the Children and Adolescent Sexual Assault Counsellors’ network and was a former editor of Breaking Free – the monthly newsletter of the Blue Knot Foundation, the peak body supporting survivors with complex trauma.
Cherie undertakes ongoing professional development in the areas of: teen self-harm, infidelity and betrayals, high conflict couples, trauma-related shame and self-loathing, narcissism and borderline personality disorder, adult family estrangements and cut-offs, ADHD and ASD in children.
